Who I am
I'm Nicolas Jouve, a documentary photographer specializing in travel and landscape photography. My approach is rooted in a constant quest for authenticity — I photograph to capture what moves me, what speaks to me, without seeking to seduce or impress.
My philosophy
I photograph to capture what surrounds me, to show what isn't always visible, to reveal the beauty that exists around us but that we often forget to notice.
My approach is contemplative and patient. I don't stage anything; I simply wait for it. I wait for the elements to fall into place, for the light to land just right, for the moment to become magical. It's a dance between observation and feeling, between what I see and what I sense.
I'm naturally drawn to what doesn't necessarily "pop" — the places, the moments, the details we walk past without seeing. Even a small coastal river like the Lez, which I see every day in Montpellier, can tell a fascinating story if you take the time to look for it.
My vision
I believe that the world is richer than we think.
My work speaks to those who share this vision — kindred spirits, whether people or brands, who seek authenticity over spectacle, subtlety over sensationalism. I'm not trying to convince anyone; I'm simply seeking to resonate with those who already understand me.
Photographic approach
My method is documentary and honest. I capture:
- People in places — the interaction between humans and their environment
- Atmospheres — what I feel in that precise moment
- Authentic moments of life — unposed, natural, true
Whether alone facing the majestic nature of the Alps, immersed in the raw energy of an African market, or in the middle of a city that seems suspended in time, I'm always searching for that visual connection which transcends geography and speaks directly to the soul.
Character & style
I'm a calm and introverted person. My photography reflects that — it's contemplative, respectful, never aggressive. There's no sensationalism in my work, just a quiet sincerity.
My visual palette is characterized by saturated, vivid colors, soft natural light, and a documentary authenticity that refuses any artificiality.
